Autobiography of a Reader

My at home experience with school is really simple and only takes about 2-3 hours. I wake up and I will usually sit on my phone for a bit and then I check my emails and mark my attendance for the day. I usually start my school about 30 minutes to an hour after I wake up. After I do my school, I will eat some food. I try to eat after doing my school so I don’t get distracted and not end up doing it. the rest of my day is usually pretty boring. I will sit on my phone or do something crafty. doing school at home isn’t my favorite thing. I find it pretty boring. today I was supposed to go fishing with my grandpa but it is too windy so we are going to get lunch and go shopping.

Hello, my name is Katelyn Odegard. This Is my autobiography of a reader. I will be telling you about my past experiences with reading and when I was younger. Also my most recent experiences. First off, I will be telling you about some of my earliest memories of reading. 

When I was in elementary school, there was a fifth grader who came to my class and taught me how to read. My mom and dad used to read books to me before I went to bed. Reading came to me very easily even though I have not always loved it. I tend to read kind of fast but I don’t find that as a bad thing. I just don’t remember to always read in my spare time.

I had this book where you read a poem or a little story each day, it was called “365 Days of Reading.” One of my other favorite books was a Barbie book that had a bunch of different stories in it. One of my brothers’ used to read me that book when I was younger. I also had a book that I had called “I Love You, Mommy.” The I love you, mommy book was about a mama bear and her cub, she was teaching him how to do things in life.

I never really had many reading habits. I read a little bit each week because I had to do reading logs in elementary school and middle school. I read the Diary of a Wimpy kid series. A series I always wanted to read was “Harry Potter.” I just didn’t and still don’t have the patience to actually read them. 

I can’t really remember any books I read in school except some books that were like comics. I read a lot of “Calvin and Hobbes” and a series of books called “Elephant and Piggie.” Those books were about an elephant and a pig who went on adventures and had many friends who they met along the way. I loved reading Dr. Suess books although they were hard for me to understand or pronounce because he used many long words and some that weren’t even real words.

The reading habit I have is reading after school so then I actually process the information rather than late at night when I am tired. Usually I will be reading non-fiction books. I like reading romance and mystery books. I like reading mystery books because it is a thrilling experience and I love the adventure along the book and not knowing what will come ahead.

I think what makes a book good is having dramatic parts happen and having them describe the scenery and setting so you can imagine the way it looks in your head. At this point in time, I think that reading is a good thing but it doesn’t interest me very much. I like reading but I don’t want to read a book if there isn’t a slight bit of interest.

I hope to soon finish my book I am currently reading. The book is called “Eleanor & Park.” It is about a girl who is at a new school meets a boy and they ride the bus together and end up sharing comics and cassette tapes. So far they have kissed and they hang out but they keep getting in arguments and fights with each other. A quote I found that I liked is “Reading is dreaming with open eyes.” I think that goes along with what I was talking about earlier with imagining the setting and scenery of the story in your head.
